"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"
Faye Liversage (aged 17), Kumon maths completer

About the centre

  • Students attend class on a drop-in basis, arriving anytime between 4.00pm and 6.00pm, each class visit lasts approximately 20-30 minutes per subject. During this time, parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area.

  • At the study centre, I will observe and assess each child at work. Each student works through each level at their own pace, must display a good level of fluency and accuracy and take an achievement test before advancing to the next level.

  • When students arrive at class, they are greeted by our receptionist, who supervises students handing in homework and collecting new work to be completed during the coming week.

  • Students completing a test or moving on to a new level will come to see me before they begin their work.

  • English students read to an assistant (one-to-one) before completing their class work, and maths students do some one-to-one oral work with an assistant once they have completed their work. Whilst the student is completing their class work, their homework is being checked and recorded by my team of assistants. Along with me, the team are on hand to provide guidance where necessary.

  • Dual subject students will do the English class work and then maths.

  • All students are then free to choose an activity (including reading a book, completing a number board, etc), while class work is being marked. Students then do their corrections after marking. Students see me before they leave class for feedback as this gives both the student and I the opportunity to talk about their progress and goals with lots of praise.

  • We have a sticker system in place at the centre as a motivational tool. Each student has a membership card with spaces for stickers. Students are rewarded with stickers in the class for doing their work every day, having it marked and corrected, coming to class, and passing achievement tests. The completed sticker cards can then be exchanged for prizes. Students are also given an achievement certificate each time they complete a level/pass a test. We have an Annual Awards Ceremony where the efforts and achievements of all students are formally recognised.
