KUMON CONNECT available In-Centre Class available Online Class available

The Kumon Altrincham Study Centre offers both maths and English study programmes. Unlike traditional tuition centres that teach, Kumon goes one step further by equipping each child with techniques and self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work, independently. We aim to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.

The centre opened over 13 years ago with children from the age of two through to 18, studying with us each week, so we’re now a well-established part of the community. Classes run at the Bowdon Parish Centre and we provide a comfortable afterschool setting for parents and students alike. Our in-centre classes are currently three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Attending class allows the Instructor and a team of around three class assistants, to observe their methods, progress and fluency at each level to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan according to their abilities.

Each student’s assigned study is set at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.

About the Instructor

My name is Nisha, and I’m the Instructor of the Kumon Altrincham Study Centre. With over 25 years of experience in teaching in secondary schools, I pride myself on my ability to bring out the best in children by using Kumon and my knowledge to help children flourish, gain confidence and develop self-discipline. From being in the classroom and running my own tutoring business, I understand that each child has individual learning processes, and I find it rewarding to help children reach the stage where they can finally say “I did it!”

My younger daughter studied both Kumon programmes, and I was blown away by the results. I witnessed her develop in confidence and find a love for learning, approaching any task with a curious and self-reliant attitude. After experiencing Kumon as a parent and with my maths teaching background, I was drawn to the Kumon Method of Learning and trained to become an Instructor. I love developing children of all ages and abilities in the centre. Kumon supports the development of several soft skills as well as the academics of maths and English.

Kumon helps children to become independent learners and develop core skills which will help them succeed in all aspects of school life, including the Trafford Selective School entrance examinations and GCSEs. Whether your child is struggling in school or not being challenged enough, Kumon can help them discover their maximum potential. I look forward to welcoming you soon.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
