"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"
Faye Liversage (aged 17), Kumon maths completer

Meet the students

Kumon is an individualised programme that can benefit students of all ages and abilities. At my centre I have students ranging in age from three years, to 16 years.

At the Frome Centre, 79% of students who have been studying Kumon for a year or more are working above the level expected for their age.

Students of the Year

Each year an exceptional student is nominated as Student of the Year. This year two students were chosen, one maths student and one English Student.

Maths Student of the Year: Eloise Price
Meet The Students Frome Elosie was chosen for her dedication and determination in her Kumon Studies. Here is what she has to say about her journey:

"I started Kumon in July 2008, because, at school, whenever I had a Maths test, I would get loads of butterflies in my tummy and felt very worried. At that time my maths was not very good and my report showed that I was struggling a bit. I then decided to start Kumon. I was a bit unsure about it at first but once I had met Susan, I felt a whole lot better.

"My starting level was 2A and I am now on level E. I didn't think such an improvement would be possible! I got my Bronze ASR award in September 2009 and I am hoping to achieve Silver soon.

"Ever since I started Kumon, I have become miles more confident in Maths at school. I am in the second highest Maths group out of the 5 groups in my year. Even though I still find things difficult at times, I can find my way through it.
"Now, whenever I go into my Maths class, I can feel confident, even if I know we are having a test.

"I usually do my Kumon after I get home from school. Sometimes I do find it difficult to fit it in, especially with all my homework and after school activities. But it's really worth the effort!

English Student of the Year: Matthew Gibbons
Meet The Students Frome MatthewMatthew was chosen for the exceptional progress he has made on the Kumon English programme, whereby he started working on the level equivalent to GCSE, while still in primary school.

Here is what he has to say about his journey:

"What I like about Kumon is that you get different knowledge about different subjects. I started Kumon because my mum thought it would help and I was getting behind at school. In three years I have just achieved my G-in Primary Award. I am very proud of this and so is my mum. I have studied 16 levels in total and the good thing about being above school level is that sometimes you are just refreshing your memory at school."

Early Learners

Frome Meet The Students ElijahAt Kumon we know that children learn best when they are interested and excited about what they are doing. Children as young as two are benefiting from the Kumon programme.

By exposing children to letters and numbers at a young age you can give them a long, lasting enthusiasm for education.

Elijah is three years old and is working on the English and maths programmes. He is working above the level expected for his age in both subjects. He can read short sentences, count to 50, add one to numbers up to 20 and is learning to form letters and numbers correctly.

Why does he do Kumon?

Maths: "I quite like counting!"
English: "I want to be a writer like my Daddy."
