"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"
Faye Liversage (aged 17), Kumon maths completer

About the centre

Students are welcome to arrive at class from 3.15pm. Single subject students are likely to spend approximately 30 minutes at the centre and dual subject students, up to an hour. Please bear this in mind when arriving, as the centre closes at 5.15pm. Kumon classes are held on the ground level in the McCracken Suite. The room offers a large, mostly carpeted area providing a comfortable and quiet environment in which to study.

There is both lift and stair access to a waiting area upstairs and there is a vending machine in reception. The venue offers free onsite car parking, and bus stops are situated on the main road, adjacent to the car park. Parents of young students are requested to stay until the student has completed their study.

At class

Students swap their homework on arrival. Whilst their class work is marked and recorded by a team of Kumon assistants, the students have a variety of practical exercises to do. Those students studying English will read to an assistant or the Instructor. Maths students will independently complete a numberboard to improve number recognition speeds and sequencing skills.  They also work with an assistant to complete various oral maths exercises.

Before leaving the centre, students are kept informed of their progress as the Instructor reviews their work for that day and discusses their homework.  They collect a sticker for each piece of completed work, and can exchange a full membership card for prizes or vouchers. Students are encouraged to work to goals and my award ceremonies are a fitting way to celebrate successes.
