Welcome to the Kumon Grantham Study Centre. We have been running since 2016, and we support pre-school, primary and secondary school aged students.

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes aim to bring out the best in every child, regardless of age or ability and help them to reach their potential and foster a love of learning. Through individualised programmes with work set at just the right level, your child will be able to build strong learning foundations, not only developing ability in maths and English but transferable skills that will help them achieve across all subjects.

At Kumon, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their abilities and able to face unfamiliar work. Children learn through example questions in our worksheets along with Instructor guidance. This method of learning offers so much more than traditional tuition: it nurtures your child’s independence, developing strong self-learning skills to give them the tools to help them excel in the future. Our programmes establish strong foundations in maths and English, and we support and encourage students to work out answers by themselves, helping them to become self-sufficient, successful learners for the future. These skills will support children to easily grasp new topics in school and approach examinations such as SATs, GCSEs and their 11+ exam in the most effective and efficient ways.

As well as students achieving beyond their school grade, it is the transformation in their overall attitude to work that is equally beneficial. The Kumon programmes help instil a sense of responsibility, independence, crucial time management skills and of course discipline. All these skills aid in the all-round development of their personalities.

Because work is set according to ability, irrespective of age, our programmes allow learners both to fill in any missing gaps in their study foundations, as well as the opportunity to work ahead of their school grade level. Children are assessed to determine at what point in the programme they should begin their Kumon study, then through daily work at home and weekly study centre visits, they will build self-confidence, ability and fluency, as well as crucial study skills such as focus, time management and resilience, in small manageable steps.

We are based centrally in Grantham, opposite Asda, at the Church Hall of St. Mary’s Church, on the Barrowby Road.

About the Instructor

Rosamund Collins - Grantham North

Hello, my name is Ros, and I opened the Kumon Grantham North Study Centre in February 2016.

I was initially attracted to Kumon after hearing success stories through friends and family. I saw the benefits of Kumon first hand with my nephew and nieces; their maths ability and their confidence grew quickly and I was impressed that the programme encouraged them to self-learn and tackle problems on their own.

Since opening my centre, I have welcomed and worked with many students, each with their own differing abilities, strengths and weaknesses. I see children who lack confidence in their abilities starting to blossom as they become more assured in themselves; they start to see that with practice, hard work and encouragement they can succeed at school and beyond, and I've seen struggling readers become fluent in a matter of months.

Being a Kumon Instructor is a very rewarding experience as it allows me the opportunity to help children achieve their maximum potential. Seeing children develop by systematically advancing through our programmes is one of the reasons I love my job, and I believe that working together, you and I can support and nurture your child into a very able individual.

I hope to welcome your child to the Grantham North Study Centre soon.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
