"I find schoolwork easier to understand and complete. My mental arithmetic has improved and I can do my sums in my head."
Peter Rogers (aged 9), Yate Study Centre

About the centre

At Kumon, we understand that coming into a new class can be a little daunting. That's why we will be on hand to welcome all new students and make sure they become familiar with what happens at class.  The classes run twice a week and students drop in for about half an hour during a two-hour period.  During this time parents are asked to wait in the waiting area.

At class, students return their completed homework, complete their work for that day and collect new homework Students work independently under my careful observation or with one of my trained assistants.

Whilst the student is completing their work, their homework is being checked and recorded by the centre's team of assistants.  Along with me, the team are on hand to provide guidance where necessary.

Once the student has completed their class work, they hand the work in to be marked. If they are studying the English programme, an assistant or I will listen to them read. There are also numberboards for students to complete. After the work has been marked students must correct any mistakes made.  This is really important, as it is a real learning opportunity for your child.

All students see me before leaving the class whilst I assess their classwork and review the homework that has been returned.  This gives me the chance to chat about their progress and goals and give them appropriate feedback and praise.

As motivational tools, we have a sticker system in place to exchange for gifts.  Students are awarded certificates every time they move up a level and there is an Advanced Student Roll (ASR) where we celebrate students studying beyond their school level and hopefully motivate other students to aim high.
