About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available In-Centre Class available

The centre has been serving the local community since 1999. Children of all ages and abilities are welcome, and there are currently students aged between three and 16 years old, who attend the local primary or secondary/grammar schools.

Children arrive at allocated time slots and usually stay for between 30 minutes and an hour. Within the centre students are encouraged to learn independently, as per the Kumon ethos.

As well as the Instructor, there is a support staff of one receptionist and eight assistants who have been trained in the Kumon Method of Learning to support the development of the children participating on both the maths and English programmes.

Early learners and newcomers are provided with the necessary one-to-one support to develop the required study skills and progress to independent study.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

About the Instructor

Hello! My name is Suman Mangat and I have been a Kumon Instructor since September 2013. I have had previous experience as a Kumon assistant for three years, before qualifying as an Instructor.

I am an Economics graduate and I have had more than a decade of previous work experience, from being a primary school teacher to a soft skills trainer for fresh university graduates. This has given me a wide spectrum of experience to deal with students of all ages.

I make it a point that every time a child comes to my centre, he or she goes away with a new learning experience which enriches their lives. A smile and a word of encouragement is always available and children thrive in this motivating and inspiring atmosphere.

I like to keep in regular touch with parents and discuss individual challenges, growth plans, goals and achievements. The Kumon programme is a three-way partnership between the Instructor, parents and students and I like to ensure we all work in harmony to achieve what is best for each individual child.

I am assisted by a team of warm and friendly staff and together we provide a very encouraging and inspiring atmosphere at the centre. I look forward to welcoming you and your child to join us at the Wallington Study Centre.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
