The centre provides individually tailored maths and English study programmes for students of all ages and abilities. The unique Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The centre has been established since 1995 and is a thriving and important part of the local community. Students from in and around West Kirby attend the study centre. The current age range of students is four to 15 years old.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work. New students gain from close observation and guidance in two designated development areas vital to academic and personal success.

The team of five assistants and the Instructor work closely together to help students reach their full potential. The assistants are either current or former Kumon students. This unique opportunity ensures all the staff have a deep understanding of the worksheets your child will be studying and are able to provide the right level of support and encouragement throughout your child's journey.

About the Instructor

I joined Kumon as an Instructor in 2011 after having first-hand experience of the benefits that the Kumon Method of Learning offers, with my two sons enrolling onto the Kumon programmes.

I believe our role as a parent is to equip our children with the skills required to be successful in life, whatever they choose to do. The Kumon Method of Learning provides you with the perfect opportunity to do just that. My vision for the children who attend the centre is that through developing their self-learning skills and enabling them to become independent, confident and self-motivated, they will develop into sound, capable individuals reaching their full potential.

Meeting and working with the many wonderful and inspiring children, with varying ages and abilities, is without a shadow of a doubt the most rewarding element of my role as a Kumon Instructor. When I first meet my students at enrolment they are often shy and lacking in confidence. By providing a quiet, focused and supportive environment, where the children are carefully guided and nurtured to reach their full potential, I am afforded the opportunity to see my students flourish into confident, independent learners with a positive attitude to learning. I feel very privileged to be a part of their journey and I am immensely proud of all their achievements.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
