Are you looking for maths and English tuition? Is your child struggling at school, or do they need to be challenged more? Whatever the motivation, the unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Located near Manchester city centre and established in 2016, the Kumon Eastlands Study Centre offers the Kumon maths and English Programmes to children of all ages and abilities. Currently students at the study centre range from nursery through to secondary school age.

Prior to starting Kumon, your child will need to complete a free assessment. This provides insight into your child’s current ability in maths and English, which is used to select the starting point for your child when they enrol in the programmes. Through daily study of the unique Kumon worksheets, your child will strive towards studying above the international standard for their age, enabling them to realise their potential both at school and beyond.

Did you know, you can now study Kumon using digital worksheets? This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here to find out more.

About the Instructor

Ancoats - Corinne Lau

Hello, my name is Corinne Lau and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Eastlands Study Centre.

I started my relationship with the Kumon programmes in my hometown of Toronto, Canada, in 1986. As a former Kumon student, I have experienced first-hand the benefits of the Kumon Method of Learning. From an early age my maths and English skills advanced, which elevated my confidence and self-belief. I excelled throughout my school years and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce with High Distinction at the University of Toronto. I am professionally qualified as a certified management accountant. I have worked within large publicly listed companies, performing detailed financial analysis, preparing budgets and forecasts.

Now as a parent of two children, I can identify with the desire of parents who want the best for their children. My vision for the Eastlands Study Centre is to be a resource that parents can depend upon to help unlock their children’s potential. The centre will also be a channel for children to feel a strong sense of achievement as they progress through the programmes, witnessing the results of their efforts at school and in their daily lives.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
