Our goals and aspirations
Making a contribution to the global community through individualised education
Ever since it was established, Kumon has consistently aimed to help students develop a firm foundation of academic ability and become people who are capable of learning on their own. Kumon Instructors have a strong belief in the potential of each and every student they encounter. Kumon maximises students’ ability, discovers the just-right level of study for each student, and provides students with optimum learning materials. The Kumon Method, originally developed by a father for his son, is now available in 49 countries and regions around the world.
The Kumon Method transcends national borders and cultural barriers and has been accepted all around the world. This widespread acceptance is the direct result of Kumon’s belief in the limitless potential of all human beings, and our pursuit of that potential through the systematic implementation of individualised education. Every parent or guardian believes in the potential of their child and has great dreams for his or her future. The Kumon Method does much more than simply help students develop solid academic ability; it also provides students with the experience of encountering new material and making progress on their own.
The goal of the Kumon Method is to develop independent and proactive individuals who know how to learn independently. When our students grow up and go out into the world, we want them to be fully capable of finding their own way. We do this via two means: one is the Kumon Instructor who discovers what is just right for each student; the other is the Kumon learning materials that are composed of a finely graded series of steps designed to encourage students to progress on their own initiative. This combination of the Kumon Instructor and our learning materials make it possible to provide individualised study that is just right for each student; all students, regardless of age or school grade level, can enhance their ability with Kumon. Education with the Kumon Method supports the personal and academic growth of students in line with the hopes of parents and guardians. By consistently delivering concrete results, people can see for themselves how we at Kumon bring out the potential in each of our students, which is why the Kumon Method has been so well accepted worldwide.
As the world becomes more diverse, an increasing number of people are calling for a greater emphasis on the individual in education. The Kumon Method today has developed from many years of implementing individualised education. That is the reason expectations for the Kumon Method are growing around the globe. We at Kumon intend to continue to meet these expectations by focussing our efforts on each of our students. Furthermore, we will continue to refine the Kumon Method by closely observing our students and learning from them. In this way, we believe we can better enable our students to reach their full potential and thus make a greater contribution to society.
In our increasingly globalised and diversified world, the fostering of competent human resources is becoming more and more important. Today, there is a tremendous demand for quality education. All of us at Kumon feel a deep responsibility and sense of mission as we strive to make a contribution to the global community, and ultimately to world peace, through individualised education.
- We at Kumon share a dream, a dream of world peace brought about by education.
- We will move toward the realisation of that dream by helping people to better themselves through individualised education.
- Acting as a responsible global citizen, Kumon will contribute to the growth and happiness of each individual by putting into practice our Mission, Vision, and Values.
By discovering the potential of each individual and developing his or her ability to the maximum, we aim to foster sound, capable people and thus contribute to the global community.
We wish that all people in all countries and regions in the world will have the opportunity to learn with the Kumon Method, and that each individual in the world will be enthusiastically self-learning and making efforts toward realising his or her dreams and goals.
Values: The Kumon Way – What we, Associates, care about
What we care about most is each individual child. All Kumon learning must be, without exception, a useful learning experience for the child’s growth and future. We must provide an opportunity to learn with the Kumon Method to as many children as possible.
These two things we always hold firmly in our hearts as we approach our work ─ they are the sole reason for Kumon’s existence and development, and are also our responsibility for the children. If, along the way, we waver or there is dissent, we will always stop to ask ourselves, “Will this really benefit the children?” and thus we will find our way once again. With this in mind, we will do everything in our power to make this educational method even more valuable and to allow as many children as possible to learn with the Kumon Method.
What we next cherish are the people who work toward achieving our common goal. We have the highest respect for Kumon Instructors as well as all other people who care about children and who wish to contribute to society through education with us. With heartfelt appreciation and affinity, we strive to give our fullest support and to work in unity with all of these people.
We also greatly value all of our Associates. We must do our best to create and maintain the kind of workplace culture and environment where all Associates can energetically approach their work with a sense of mission and challenge and can better themselves every day while a decent livelihood is ensured and adequate compensation is offered to all.
Lastly, we take to heart the following three things and will remain true to them in any situation.
1. We affirm to be upright citizens by always asking ourselves if our words and deeds are fair and just.
2. We will strive to be people who can feel joy and a sense of wonder while maintaining our conviction and pride as educators.
3. We will cultivate a sense of modesty and humility so that we can always grow with each passing day.
