"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"

Bursary Scheme

Could your school benefit from the Kumon Bursary Scheme?

The scheme provides free Kumon maths or English instruction at one of our study centres to children who might not otherwise be able to afford the cost of a Kumon programme, and who have not previously studied using the Kumon Method. Children are required to attend their local study centre two days a week and to study each day of the week with the support of their parents, who we train in the best ways to help their child reap the full benefits of Kumon study. Bursary recipients are treated exactly like every other child at the centre, which means that they and their parents receive regular feedback and encouragement.

The children on the bursary scheme are chosen by the school in close consultation with the local Kumon Instructor, and should ideally reflect different types of need – for example a child on the Gifted and Talented register and one who has fallen behind expected levels of attainment. Each Kumon centre may work with up to two schools, and each of these schools must award two separate bursary places (one subject per bursary). There is a formal application process which involves the school, the parents/guardians and the Instructor. Once accepted by Kumon, and provided they continue to be committed to the programme, the bursary will last for two school years. In the unlikely event that the bursary place is not properly valued and used by the student or parents/guardians, then Kumon reserves the right – after due notice – to withdraw the place.

At the conclusion of the bursary place, there is the option to continue further with the programme on a paying basis, and in such cases Kumon will waive its usual registration fee.

For the school, there are a number of benefits. Besides helping individual children, the scheme also allows the school, its staff, governors and parents to monitor the effectiveness of the Kumon Method in practice over an extended period, without the outlay which a full in-school programme would require.
