"It is highly rewarding to be a part of young people's success and to hear reports from school of how they are advancing and often outperforming their peers."

A Kumon completer

Ritchie Ramnial - English CompleterRitchie Ramnial started the Kumon English programme at level A1 when he was nearing the end of year 4 at school, when he was 9. After studying maths for some time, Ritchie's parents were confident that he would benefit from the extra-curricular support of Kumon's English programme.

In the early stages of the programme, Ritchie learned about language composition, how to structure sentences and paragraphs using adjuncts, and information patterns; such as introduction, contrast and conclusion. As the programme progressed, Ritchie began to develop further reading comprehension skills and a deeper understanding of different texts and genres.

At school he always liked English, so enjoyed studying extracts from different fiction books during levels G and H of the programme. During these stages, Ritchie became adept at summarising and analysing texts, and his interest in different genres grew.

Levels J, K and L presented more of a challenge to Ritchie. He particularly enjoyed the variety of work, which includes critical writing and analysis of characters and literary features like plot, iron and comedy.

When Ritchie went into year 7, aged 11, school work became more time consuming but he remained committed to Kumon study and adjusted his workload accordingly.

Ritchie's Instructor Roz, always found his enthusiasm and dedication for Kumon study rewarding. In particular, his love for poetry and play extracts.

After studying Kumon for six years and above his equivalent school level for 3-4, Ritchie completed the programme. He worked slowly but surely towards Bronze, progressing more rapidly to silver. As Ritchie now goes into his final GCSE year, he should feel proud to have gained the prestigious gold award.
