"It is highly rewarding to be a part of young people's success and to hear reports from school of how they are advancing and often outperforming their peers."
Cath Muscroft, Instructor of the Golborne Study Centre

Kumon raise vital funds for children's charity

Leading education provider Kumon Educational UK have raised a staggering £1,244 for international children's charity Save the Children. The money was raised at Kumon's Annual Conference on the 18 and 19 July at the University of Warwick. Around 250 Kumon Instructors who run their own Kumon study centres attended the conference in order to learn more about how to further develop their businesses and help more children to fulfill their potential.

Whilst Instructors mingled and networked they also had the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and make donations to the worthwhile charity. Kumon always place children at the heart of all its activity and the conference provided the ideal opportunity to make an impact on the lives of children that they cannot reach with their current work.

Save the Children is an independent children's charity that fights for children's rights. They work to ensure children across the globe get proper healthcare, food, education and protection. Save the Children respond to emergencies, campaign for children's rights and aim to improve their futures through long-term development work.

The funds raised by Kumon could go towards building two brand new schools for children in isolated communities in countries like Nigeria or Indonesia. Going back to school after the long holidays can be a wrench for any child but for some children reaching school can be almost impossible. They might have to travel miles, live with relatives while they're learning, or miss out completely.

As well as supporting Save the Children, this year as part of their corporate social responsibility programme, Kumon has joined forces with the charity Link Romania to launch the Kumon Family Shoebox Appeal in aid of families in need in Eastern Europe. Kumon students, Instructors and staff are encouraged to donate a shoebox filled with simple, everyday items such as stationery, warm clothes, small toys and gifts that will be sent to poor families in Romania, Moldova and Albania in time for Christmas.
