The Kumon Gateshead - Low Fell Study Centre is based at St Ninians Church Hall in Low Fell. The Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child, developing their ability, confidence and nurturing their independence.

I welcome students of all ages and abilities from Gateshead and surrounding areas. Students attend the centre for approximately 30 minutes per subject once or twice a week, and class day/arrival time will be arranged at your initial assessment meeting.

The centre fosters a positive, encouraging atmosphere, and focuses on developing excellent study skills as an integral part of the Kumon programmes. As the Instructor I have many years of experience of working with young children and students studying the higher levels of the programmes.

Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

Following a free assessment your child will begin on the programmes at an individually set starting point, laying a solid foundation for effective learning. Their progress through the programmes will be tailored to their individual needs, ensuring your child continues to grow and achieve.

About the Instructor

My name is Gayathri Duvvuru and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Gateshead, Low Fell Study Centre. I have a Masters in Public Management. I have worked in NHS for nearly 10 years as a Clinical Auditor and Data Manager.

When my three children joined the Ponteland study centre, I was inspired by the wealth of academic knowledge that the Kumon English and Maths Study Programmes contain, the life skills it has been providing my children, the importance of the head start in learning and most of all the crucial role of a Kumon Instructor in enabling children to reap the benefits of Kumon. Then, it was my next natural step to become a Kumon instructor and opened my centre at Sunderland South in 2015.

Being an Instructor is extremely rewarding and I constantly see students developing the maths and English skills to their full potential and becoming true self-learners. The most exciting part as an instructor is, learning every day from my students.

I have received awards for nurturing students through completing maths and English programmes and have a good percentage of students working beyond the Kumon ASHR, global international standard.

As a Kumon parent, I understand and appreciate the major role played by the parent in the child’s Kumon journey.

If you want your child to have a head start, support and/or a challenge academically, please contact me. I would be looking forward to welcoming you to the centre.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
