About this centre

The centre provides maths and English study programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Having opened in 2010, it is now well established and serves a wide area including Sandbach, Middlewich, Crewe and Haslington.

Students at the centre currently range in age from four to 16 years old. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The classes are run by the Instructor, who is supported by four assistants on Monday classes and three assistants on Thursday classes. Two of the assistants are ex-primary school teachers and the other is a senior high school student. The assistants perform a number of different tasks, but are primarily there to support the students in their work.

At the classes, alongside the worksheets, reading is done with English students and mental arithmetic with the maths students.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

My name is Roy Evans and I am the Instructor at the Sandbach Study Centre.

I have worked for the last 31 years as an IT professional for Barclays Bank and Accenture. This work has been in the financial services sector where I was responsible for development and maintenance of key banking systems.

I have three children and I have always had a keen interest in their development, actively encouraging and working with them throughout their school and college life. The success of my children has shown me that your child's education is one of the most important things you'll ever have to make decisions about.

I have trained as a Kumon Instructor so that I can have a more rewarding career by helping to develop children to their full potential. I see Kumon as an opportunity to make a big difference.

In the past, I have carried out voluntary work at the village primary school working with children of five, six and seven years of age. This has been a rewarding experience and I look forward to furthering this with my Kumon career.

I am very lucky to be able to instruct using such an effective, rigorous and proven programme.
