The centre opened in 1997 and offers the Kumon maths and English programmes, which are for all ages and abilities. The current student’s ages range from four to 16 years old. The centre is situated in St. Mary’s Cathedral Church Hall, which is a very central location located just off Union Street and is easily accessible by car, foot or public transport.
There is a waiting area for parents/guardians while students attend the centre. If a parent has to leave the centre while the child is in class, they can leave their mobile number with our assistant, who will text them once the child has finished their work and is ready to be collected.
In the centre, there is a separate area for early learners, a testing table, a reading area where children can read books and a dedicated reading assistant. Currently, the Aberdeen Study Centre has a team of 17 well-trained assistants who are friendly and approachable, and are available to aid student’s development. One assistant is assigned to the reception area to assist students before they enter the classroom.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
In order to recognise academic ability, the centre holds an annual awards ceremony to reward those who are working ahead of their school grade.
The centre hosts information sessions where you can enrol your child, which are usually held on the first Saturday of each month.
