The centre has been running in Archway since 1994 and provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Currently, the youngest student is three and the oldest is 22.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Strength in maths is a common result of studying with Kumon - about half of the students at the centre are studying at a level which is six months or more ahead of their school level. Their parents have often commented how confidence, attitude and even enjoyment of maths have developed positively through studying the subject with Kumon.
There are about equal numbers of maths and English students and the centre has developed particular expertise with students whose first language is not English. There is a dedicated team of multi-lingual young assistants, most of whom have gone through the Kumon programmes themselves. Between them, the staff speak English, French, Arabic, German, Somali, Portuguese and Farsi. The centre encourages parents to liaise with assistants when it comes to checking English homework.
Many of the students attend schools within the area and live locally.
