The centre opened in 1999, and is located at the United Reformed Church Hall, opposite Zizzi's restaurant.
Kumon is suitable for all ages and at the moment, students at the study centre range between the ages of four to 16 years old, with some long-standing and dedicated students. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
The class hall is very quiet, which provides a calm learning environment for students in which to do their studies in a focused environment. We place emphasis on times-tables at the centre for those on the maths programme.
The Beaconsfield Study Centre has a team of well-trained dedicated assistants, of whom most are or were previously Kumon students and so can offer knowledgeable support to student's development. One assistant has even completed the English programme.
Students work in the main hall and there is a separate waiting room for parents and siblings for when children are in class. There is also a garden area in the summer and toilet facilties.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
