The Belfast, Windsor Kumon Centre offers after-school maths and English programmes for children of all ages and abilities. Kumon's main focus is to promote independent learning by taking children 'back to basics' and concentrates on key topics such as mental arithmetic, times tables, reading and grammar.
Your child will come to class once or twice a week and will also complete a small piece of work each day at home. The programmes allow each child to work at their own carefully monitored pace. The work is individually set for each student depending on their study needs. Each student will start at an easy level, which they feel comfortable with; this ensures any gaps in their learning are tackled, which builds confidence and motivation before moving onto higher levels.
Kumon is a flexible programme which allows the student to repeat topics if necessary, and can help students of all abilities become fluent in their work with an aim of achieving long-term goals and targets. We also ensure that each student receives praise and is motivated throughout the programme, which plays an important part in each child's development. As a result the student becomes a more independent and confident learner.
The venue is bright and spacious and allows students enough room to work easily and comfortably. Monday and Thursday classes are for students who attend twice a week and the new Wednesday class (beginning 31 August 2011) is for students who attend once a week. The time spent at class will vary depending on whether a student does one or both subjects but a student will probably spend around 20 – 30 minutes in the class and parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area during this time. Students can come at the time that is most convenient for them; some arrive early and leave early whilst others have a journey after school and come later.
