The centre provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Classes are held on Fridays and Saturdays and students normally attend class once or twice a week and stay for 30 minutes to an hour.
The centre opened in 2006 and is based at Townley Grammar School for Girls, a popular school that encourages community use. Classes run in the Old Gym and there are car parking facilities.
The students are currently aged from four to 18 years old and from state and independent schools. Many are now entering their fifth year at the centre and have demonstrated considerable success at the centre and at school. Kumon study has boosted many students' self-esteem, improved their concentration and developed their abilities in English and maths.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
