Welcome to the Blakenhall Kumon study centre, which provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Many of our students attend schools within the area and live in the local community.

Conveniently located at the heart of Blakenhall, the centre is situated at St Luke's Church Hall, the entrance to which is via Moore Street South and has been open since October 2008. The centre provides both a classroom and a room for parents to wait while their children attend the class. Parking facilities are available at the centre.

At present, our students range from 4-13 years old. Most of them have been with us since we first opened and are all making excellent progress.

With Kumon study your child will:

  • work at a pace that is tailored to their individual needs
  • develop invaluable study skills and concentration<
  • establish a positive attitude to study

Kumon's long-term focus provides children with the self-assurance and the transferable self-learning skills to realise their potential throughout school and life.

Enrolments

Enrolments are held individually by appointment at your home at a convenient time and gives you and your child an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. The enrolment lasts between 1-1.5 hours. At this session I will talk you through the Kumon programme to make sure parents and students are happy and understand what they can expect.

I will then administer your child with the diagnostic test. The diagnostic test establishes the correct level for your child to start the programme and identifies their 'easy starting point.

I will also talk more about the easy starting point and how it helps to build confidence and momentum in your child. In addition, I will explain the progress that your child will make in the first year and each year after that.

We will also have the opportunity to talk about the roles of the Instructor, parent/guardian and student and look at the 3-way partnership.
