The centre provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities.
The centre opened in 2012 and currently has over 80 children studying the programmes. Many of the students attend schools and live in the local community and some travel from nearby neighbourhoods. The youngest student is currently three-and-a-half years old and the oldest is 15.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
The study centre is located at Canada Water Library, which is located next to Canada Water station, and is a state-of-the-art, newly opened library that offers a great learning environment for the students. There is a dedicated area where students can do number board activities or read a book whilst waiting for their work to be marked.
The library is easily accessible by public transport and there are plenty of free parking spaces available too. Whilst waiting for their children to complete their daily Kumon work in the centre, parents or guardians can browse the books in the library, use an internet access point or grab a coffee. A text message service informs parents when children are ready to be picked up.
There are seven assistants who work in the centre alongside the Instructor, supporting the students' development.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
