Like tuition providers in the Canterbury area we offer supplementary maths and English programmes to improve academic success, but Kumon is so much more than academic learning. Our outlook is to help develop the key study skills your child needs to thrive in school, putting into place skills for life.
From the moment the student sits down in class we focus on concentration, stamina, good study routine, independence of thinking, working at a good pace and rhythm, following instructions carefully and even posture; these are all aspects of learning that help a child reach their full potential.
We have had many students go on to do well in their entrance exams and 11+ “Kent test”, having developed the complementary study skills at Kumon to achieve success.
The Canterbury centre caters for students of all ages and abilities, from pre-schoolers to teenagers. Students at the centre attend from far and wide, from Canterbury to Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate, Broadstairs, Dover and Ramsgate.
If you are looking for extra lessons for your child we are open twice a week and you will be able to continue the learning at home with daily exercises for non-class days. All the staff at the centre are experienced in supporting children and background checks are in place to ensure their suitability to work with your child.
Classes take place at Rough Common Village Hall, which is conveniently located close to the University of Kent with easy access by car or public transport. There is a large free car park and waiting area for parents to wait comfortably while their child studies.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
