In-Centre Class available KUMON CONNECT available

Families who come to the Kumon Chessington Study Centre looking for purely maths and English tuition for their child, are delighted to find that we provide so much more than just the core study fundamentals. We pride ourselves in developing independent, confident children through individualised, advanced study.

The study centre caters for students of all ages and abilities. The youngest student currently at the centre is a preschooler and the oldest students are in year 9, and working towards their GCSEs.

Each team member is conscious of his/her role and contribution to the progress of the children studying in the centre and derives happiness out of the children’s success.

The centre is located in the Hook Parish Hall which is a huge, spacious hall with a waiting area for parents. It is located next to the King Edward’s Recreation Ground where parents can keep the younger siblings busy, when the weather is good. The library in the Hook Centre is located just a 2 minute drive or 5 minute walk away which makes it convenient for children to borrow books and to help them discover the beautiful world of reading.

We are there to provide guidance, support and encouragement to the children and nurture them into confident, happy and enthusiastic learners. We look forward to welcoming you and your children to our centre.

About the Instructor

Abhiruchi Sharma - Chessington Study Centre

Hello. I am Abby and I have always been an individual who has thrived on growing and developing people. It is this passion which drives me to be a Kumon Instructor and to grow and nurture the children of today into confident, positive and persevering individuals of tomorrow.

The Kumon Method of learning inspired me to become an Instructor when I started to see a marked change in my own daughter's attitude towards studying when she became a Kumon student.

I have a firm foundation in maths, analytical skills and English, with a desire for numbers and enjoy working with children. This environment gives me the perfect opportunity to work with children and improve their skills in areas I have a strong expertise in.

Every day, my students continue to amaze me with their accomplishments which are far beyond what is expected for their age. I am filled with pride each time I see a child who started off at my centre lacking in self-confidence and esteem, and over the months has blossomed into a child who has shown exceptional progress in maths and English, supreme confidence in his/her ability and a willingness to keep trying out something new and challenging.

I love being a part of their development and I look forward to welcoming your child to the centre and being a vital part of his/her Kumon journey.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
