Cultivated 50 years ago in Japan, Kumon is a leading supplementary educator, spanning 46 different countries worldwide.
A very warm welcome from us all at the Chingford North Kumon Centre. Our ongoing aim has been to nurture a centre which promotes a great feeling of support and friendliness within its student community. We are confident that we have achieved this, and are proud to have created an environment in which children feel, safe, happy and motivated to work and achieve their best results.
Here at the Chingford North Centre we are proud to cater for all from age three upwards, tailoring their study programs to meet their individual needs and maximising their progress. We say "yes" to those children who may need extra support, "yes" to those who are ahead of their peers, and "yes" to those who just need that extra confidence boost to help them achieve their long term goals.
The Centre itself provides a personalised Maths and English learning programme. Our students come from virtually all the schools in our surrounding area; primary, secondary, state and private. Progress does not depend upon age, so, if younger students have the ability, they can move through the work swiftly and ahead of their school level, thus avoiding boredom and frustration. Equally, less confident children who are struggling at school, can progress at a pace to suit them, without feeling that the curriculum is moving on and leaving them behind. The common aim is to make all students fluent in their work so that they can achieve their long term goals.
Our focus is on promoting independent learning by taking children back to basics and concentrating on key topics. On the Maths programme they develop their numeracy skills as well as concentration, mental agility, accuracy and fluency. The English programme focuses on reading comprehension skills but also builds skills in grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling, as well as fostering a love of reading. Both programmes complement the school curriculum.
Essentially once your child has enrolled, they will complete a short piece of work everyday. The worksheets themselves, which are the result of 50 years of refining and development, explain step by step how to tackle that day's work. Each piece of work leads to the next, and gradually, this encourages students to work problems out for themselves and, become more independent and more confident learners.
The Centre is located on a high street in the heart of North Chingford in St Teresa's hall, which is adjacent to St Mary's Catholic Primary school. There is a small car park at the front of the hall and ample parking on side roads nearby. It is close to the Chingford Railway station and is easily accessible on local bus routes.
