"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"

Welcome to the Kumon study centre in Chorlton, which has been established since August 2002. In this time the centre has grown from just three students to more than 180. Our youngest student so far had just had her third birthday when she started, and our oldest was in his forties. Many of our students attend schools within the area and live in the local community. Others come from further afield.
Students progress at a pace that is tailored to their individual needs. By doing a little bit of work each day, they improve their English and maths study skills, their concentration skills, develop their confidence and their ability to become self-learners.
English students may start with pre-reading or basic spelling and (in time!) come to an appreciation of Shakespeare's plays, the Greek tragedies, Mark Twain, Joseph Conrad and Jane Austin. In maths, students may start with fundamental number knowledge and progress through mental arithmetic to quadratic equations and differential calculus.
Kumon students learn each topic to a high standard. The Kumon principle of 'mastery through practice' means that work is repeated until it is fully mastered. Thus they are not only extremely good at that topic but they are also prepared for future ones.
The key to smooth progress with Kumon study is the work that the students complete every day. Once or twice a week this is at the centre with us, but the rest of the time this is done at home. Having their work marked, doing their corrections and getting feedback, praise and encouragement at home is a vital part of the student's experience with Kumon. Successful Kumon parents are positive about work that is repeated, praising their child for each improvement made.
