The Kumon Epping Study centre was established in February 2015 and is located in the Epping Hall, on St Johns Road. The centre provides a friendly and enjoyable environment where students can comfortably develop their confidence and independence. The centre is a ‘training ground’ where students can develop at their own pace and learn from their mistakes.
The students at the centre are from different ages and learning abilities. The youngest student at the centre is age three and the eldest is 16-years-old. The ultimate goal is to ensure each student leaves the centre with a sense of accomplishment and a motivational boost, which would also shine through in school and beyond.
There are a number of assistants working at the centre to support the students’ development. Early-learners are provided with the appropriate one-to-one support to develop their self-learning skills to equip them to learn independently and confidently. All staff are fully trained and have an up-to-date DBS check. The Instructor closely observes and monitors the students and the programme is tailored to each student’s individual needs. The centre has a reading corner where students can quietly read after their work is completed or whilst waiting to be collected by their parents/guardians.
There is a comfortable waiting area outside the hall for parents to sit and wait for their child to complete their work. The centre is easily accessible by bus and train and there are an extensive number of car parks in the area (just two minutes walking distance) for easy parking. We want parents to be just as relaxed as the students during their visit to the centre.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
