The centre was established in January 2015 and is based at Daniel Hall. Daniel Hall has recently undergone a total renovation and has a bright and welcoming interior.
It is a convenient town centre location, walking distance from Potters Gate School and St Andrew’s School. It is also a short walk from Waitrose and the Upper Hart and Lower Hart car parks. There is a waiting area for parents to use whilst their children are in class.
Students receive a free assessment before embarking on a personalised programme of study. Kumon is suitable for students of all ages and ability. Most students attend class once a week and will usually stay in the class for about 30 to 45 minutes.
The centre is led by the Instructor, Disha Lonergan, who is aided by a DBS-checked assistant who supports the development of students by listening to them read or checking classwork and guiding them until they can work independently.
In class, worksheet study is complemented by number board activities where appropriate. There is also a reading corner with a selection of books from various levels in the Kumon Recommended Reading List.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
The unique Kumon maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
