The centre was established in 2008 and moved into permanent premises (a barn conversion) in 2012. The study centre is just a short drive from the A19 and is also easily accessible from town. There are number of local primary and secondary schools within close proximity of the centre.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The youngest student currently studying at the centre is three years old and the oldest is 16, however the Kumon programmes are suitable for students of all ages and abilities.
The Instructor is supported by a team of five class assistants who are responsible for a number of duties to support student’s development. Two of the class assistants are Kumon students who have studied the higher levels of the programmes.
The study centre has appropriately-sized furniture for early learners, there is an area of class which is dedicated to oral reading and number boards are available to compliment daily study.
There is on-site car parking available and a parent/sibling waiting room where refreshments and magazines are available.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
