The Lewes Centre for Kumon has offered English since 2005 and Maths since 1997. It grew to around 70 students by 2008. We meet in the church hall at Southover which has a comfortable parents room. After a short spell in the Southover Primary school we returned to the hall in September 2005 when we expanded the subjects offered to include English. We are very lucky to have parking space in the school car park (after school hours) opposite the Grange on Southover High Street.
Our students come from the town of Lewes and its surrounding villages of Iford, Kingston and Ringmer: with some travelling from Uckfield in the north, and the towns along the coast in the south - Seaford, Newhaven, and Peacehaven. They attend both secondary and primary schools in the area, and some private schools further afield.
The ages of students at Lewes range from six to 15, with a fairly even spread through all the 'Key Stages' 1,2,3,4. Gowri is our youngest at six years old, and Shannon (13) the eldest, and recently a couple of 16-year-olds moved on to 6th form college out of town. Our longesr attending students are Eric and Victoria, Harry and Luke, Omkar, and Ruth who have completed over three years, achieving Advanced Medal standard.
