The Kumon Loughborough Study Centre has been open since 1998.

The unique Kumon maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Students at the centre currently range in age from three to 18 years old and are of all abilities.

Kumon provides long-term benefits to give students the best chance to succeed both at school and in life. Many of the students who have studied at the centre have used the skills they have gained to prepare them for entrance to local schools, achieve good GCSE and A level results and gain entrance to the university of their choice. Other benefits include improvements in confidence, mental agility and stamina.

Kumon students can come to class at any time during the opening hours. There are currently seven assistants working alongside the Instructor, to make sure all the students are fully supported whilst in the centre. A receptionist is on hand to greet parents and students and, there is a comfortable waiting room for parents to relax in whilst their child completes their class study.

Hi, my name is Helen Lowe and I have been a Kumon Instructor since April 2012.

My father became a Kumon Instructor when I was 18 years old. After studying maths at A level, and really enjoying it, I took the opportunity to work at his study centre. It was during this time I first experienced the satisfaction of helping young children become independent learners through the Kumon Maths and English Programmes.

When my father retired in 2012, I took over his Kumon study centre near Manchester. I spent a year running the centre before taking over the Kumon Loughborough Study Centre in April 2013. It is very exciting to be able to help students who are struggling at school, as well as challenging those students who are excelling. I love the opportunity to be involved with the education of individual students over many years, often seeing them develop their skills from primary school, through GCSE level and beyond.

As a Kumon Instructor it is extremely rewarding being able to help students reach their full potential and seeing their confidence grow throughout their Kumon journey. However, the most rewarding element of my role is seeing years of hard work and dedication paying off when a student completes the programme.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

Kumon learning method helps to develop complementary learning skills. Its unique work set help my younger son to continue learning outside of school classrooms and making good progress. Both my kids attend Kumon and I have seen the benefits they have gained since joining. As a parent, it's pleasing to know that it is and has improved their learning developments in both Maths and English. The staff and facilitators are very helpful, accommodating and friendly. Helen is very good with the kids and she ensure that their learning development is at their pace and at not one standard level. I asked the kids what they thought of Kumon, and they said it is "interesting", "fun", "sometimes it is tiring doing Kumon but I know it's helping me get better", "my Maths has improved so much" and "I like it when I've completed my sticker book and I can get a surprise from the gift box".

My son started Loughborough Kumon in his early school days. It really helps in having a daily curriculum covered. Its a gradual process and you will see child's confidence and superb progress in few months time. Helen and Phill have been so supportive throughout the years. Best part I like as a parent for this center is the flexibility. Right from Logistics to the Kumon sheets we have got all the support as and when we needed it. We would definitely recommend Kumon Loughborough for every child.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
