The Kumon Marton Study Centre opened in 2007 and is run by Jayne Moffat, an experienced Instructor. The centre has students from throughout the Teesside area including Marton, Nunthorpe, Coulby Newham, Acklam, Linthorpe, Guisborough, Great Ayton, Stokesley, Normanby and Ingleby Barwick. The majority of Marton students study both the Kumon maths and English programmes though some concentrate on one.
The centre is based in Marton Community Centre, in light and airy rooms with appropriately sized furniture for both older students who work independently and early learners who have extra support. There is a waiting area for parents, a free car park and an outdoor play area.
The Instructor is supported by a team of seven classroom assistants who undertake a number of duties to support students’ development. Three of these assistants have studied the Kumon programmes themselves, two to the higher levels. Two are qualified teaching assistants and one is studying at university to become a primary school teacher. A dedicated assistant works closely with our early learners providing guidance and support at all times. All students are observed closely and given support as, and when, required.
There are currently over 100 students studying at the centre with an age range of four to 16 years, although Kumon caters for children of all ages and abilities. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
