My wife and I 'put down roots' in Newton Mearns in 1984. I opened the Newton Mearns Kumon Centre in October 1992. This was the first Kumon Centre in Scotland and one of the first in the UK. My first students were my own four children David (aged 10), Lauren (aged 8), Elissa (aged 6) and Michael (aged 3). Kumon maths transformed their lives and enabled them to pursue the courses of their choice at university. The Kumon method is extremely powerful. I can say this from the heart!
The Newton Mearns Kumon Centre today has over 120 students (some as young as three years old). Most of the students in my Kumon Centre are 'Dual students' studying both maths and English. To help with the administration of this in class I have several marking assistants.
I also have strong links with local primary schools where I teach bridge and chess. Notably in Mearns and Crookfur Primary.
