The centre opened in 2000 and has been located at St Barnabas Church Hall on The Fairway since it was first established. Many of the students come from the immediate area, and the centre is part of the local community.
The study centre has a relaxed and friendly environment where all children can learn and develop. From their first visit, children are helped to be enthusiastic and happy in their learning.
Kumon caters for students of all ages and abilities. The youngest student at the Northolt Study Centre is currently three years old, and the oldest is 16. Some students have been with the centre for several years. The centre has an area specifically for younger students with a higher staffing ratio, which enables staff to focus on their needs. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
The centre has enthusiastic and supportive assistants, some of whom have worked at the centre for many years. Some of them are or have been Kumon parents themselves.
The centre benefits from unrestricted parking in the streets around the church hall, so parents are able to park their car within a reasonable walking distance even at the busiest times.
