The centre was first established in 2002 and has been run by the current Instructor since September 2010.
Classes run from Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre near Aireville Park. The venue has on-site parking, is easily accessible by public transport and is within walking distance of most of Skipton’s primary and secondary schools. There is also a café where parents/guardians can wait for their child whilst they are in class and an outside play area to entertain siblings.
Within the classroom there is a separate area for newly enrolled students and early learners (very young children). These students work closely with dedicated class assistants on the skills table until they develop good study skills. Once these skills have been developed, the students then work independently in a separate area of the class.
Along with the Instructor, there is a senior class assistant and several class assistants who mark work, record homework and listen to students read and practise their times tables. Some of the class assistants are previous Kumon students who have studied the Kumon programmes to a high level.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Students at the centre are of all ages and abilities; the youngest student at the centre is currently three years old and the oldest student is 16.
