The Southampton Study Centre is located in the two upstairs rooms at the Highfield Church Centre, next door to the church, Highfield Junior School and Southampton University, and was established in 1998..
There are three classroom assistants and three marking assistants together with the Instructor in the main classroom, as well as extra assistants who help the youngest students until they are able to work independently. Many of the long-term students, some of whom have been coming to the centre since they were in Year 1, end up helping in class as they understand the programme and are able to pass on their enthusiasm to those who are just getting started. There are some students at the centre whose parents were among the first intake.
Most of the older students choose to work in the smaller room with a high-level maths and English assistant – at present, an ex-student who studied Kumon maths and English from Year 1 until Year 13 and has a further maths A-level. He is currently in his gap year and off to study Computer Science at York University soon.
The Southampton Study Centre is a busy, happy place where children from all over the world and all walks of life learn that from a daily discipline they can develop skills, understanding and motivation which makes the most incredible difference to their success at school and beyond.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.
