The centre provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities and is based in the business rooms in Urmston Library. It is conveniently situated in Eden Square, the hub of Urmston town centre, and is next to a large car park (which is free for three hours), the main bus stops and the train station. Families and students enjoy the welcoming, calm and friendly atmosphere conducive to study. It provides a quiet and safe environment and is a bright, modern facility.
Kumon is suitable for all abilities and ages, and most of our students attend schools within the area and live in the local community. We currently have students aged between three to 15 years old. Some students have been here for four years or more and some are new. Younger students benefit from the dedicated early learner area and assistants where one-to-one support is available if needed.
There are six members of staff who are passionate about each child’s individual needs and specialise in different roles supporting early learners, or marking and recording class work.
Our students have access to a wide range of books (many of which are on the Kumon Recommended Reading List). The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
