Welcome to Kumon Walkden study centre, where we are passionate about helping every child build confidence, develop a love of learning, and reach their full potential.

Our personalised Maths and English programmes are designed to meet each child at their individual ability level, allowing them to progress at their own pace. Whether your child needs additional support, wants to strengthen their understanding of schoolwork, or is ready to study beyond their current year group, we provide a tailored learning programme that encourages steady progress and long-term success.

At Kumon Walkden, we believe that every child can succeed when given the right encouragement, guidance, and opportunities. The Kumon Method develops strong academic foundations while nurturing valuable life skills, including concentration, resilience, self-discipline, critical thinking, and independent learning. About your Instructor

I am Wendy, and I am delighted to be part of your child’s  learning journey and look forward to creating a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment where every student feels valued and confident to reach their full potential.

Originally from South Africa, I am now entering my 17th year as a Kumon Instructor. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to helping children develop their Maths and English skills, confidence, and independence.

My connection with Kumon is also personal, my own children grew up following the Kumon Method, giving me first-hand experience of the commitment, encouragement, and consistency required from a Kumon parent.

I understand that every child is unique, and I appreciate the important role parents play in supporting their child’s learning journey. Having experienced Kumon from both a parent’s and an Instructor’s perspective, I understand the rewards, as well as the challenges, of helping children develop strong study habits and a positive attitude towards learning.

At Kumon Walkden study centre, I aim to work in partnership with students and parents, providing individual guidance and encouragement to help each child progress at their own pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
