The centre has been at the heart of the community for over ten years. Situated at the Mansel Road Centre, it is within walking distance of central Wimbledon and its train and underground stations. Local schools are within close proximity, giving children the flexibility to attend Kumon immediately after their school day.
As well as the Instructor, the centre has two assistants who have been trained to support the development of the children participating on one or both of the Kumon Maths and English Programmes. The centre benefits from a convenient waiting area for parents and toilet facilities immediately outside the study room.
The Mansel Road Centre is a recently built and refurbished facility which is furnished to a high standard and fulfils all health and safety and fire regulations.
Kumon students attend the centre at least once a week so that the Instructor and the assistants can observe the children at work, monitor their progress and allocate new daily work. Once the children have completed a topic in English and maths, they will be set an achievement test at the centre to ensure they have mastered the work and are able to move on. Newly enrolled students are also closely monitored to ensure that they too acquire the study skills and self-assurance to go on to become confident, independent learners.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Children of all ages and abilities are welcome at the centre.
