The Kumon Winchester Study Centre was established in 1996. Students are allocated a set time of arrival when they register, and usually spend between 30 and 40 minutes in the centre per subject.
Kumon is an individualised programme suitable for children of all ages and abilities. Students at the centre vary in age from five to 18 years old and some have been studying with Kumon for over 12 years.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
The centre runs from classrooms at Western School, Browning Drive; parents are welcome to park in the school car park if there is space, or alternatively, there are public parking bays on the surrounding streets.
Along with the Instructor, Rachel Reeve, the centre's team of ten trained assistants are on hand to provide guidance where necessary. Students see the Instructor before they leave for the chance to talk about their progress and goals, reassess their abilities and to be given appropriate feedback and praise for their achievements at every visit.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
