Many local children attend the centre. The centre has the use of a large hall with easy access for students and a waiting room for parents and brothers and sisters. There is a car park for parents who need to bring students to class by car.
One of the assistants has sign language skills which facilitates communication with deaf children and hearing children of deaf parents.
The youngest students at the centre are currently pre-school age and the oldest ones are at college. Children of all abilities, including those with special needs, attend this class, some because they have difficulties at school and others because they enjoy a challenge and are working well ahead of their school year. Many students attend because their parents want to help them develop their confidence.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised study.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
