About our centre

Welcome to the Kumon Feltham Study Centre!

Since 2012, we have been privileged to support children and families in Feltham and the surrounding areas, helping young minds grow in confidence, develop independence and discover what they are capable of achieving.

At our centre, we believe that every child deserves to feel successful in their learning. We take the time to understand each student as an individual, recognise their strengths and support them through challenges along the way. We aim to create a warm and welcoming environment where children feel comfortable trying new things, learning from their mistakes and taking pride in their progress. As their skills develop, we encourage students to become increasingly confident and independent in their learning.

Whether your child is just beginning their educational journey, needs to strengthen their foundations or is ready for a greater challenge, we are here to support them. Our students range from ages 4 to 16, with every child following their own individual learning journey. We are proud of the strong relationships we have built with local families over the years and would love the opportunity to get to know yours.

About your Instructor

I’m Lakshmi Kancharla, and since 2012, I’ve had the privilege of leading the Kumon Feltham Study Centre. As we approach 15 years of serving our local community in 2027, I remain deeply passionate about helping children build academic confidence and discover the joy of independent learning.

My passion for education began in schools, where I fell in love with that magical moment when a child’s posture changes, their eyes light up and they proudly say, “I get it now!” It is moments like these that continue to inspire me every day. To ensure I provide the best possible support for our students, I continually develop my knowledge and expertise through advanced training in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). I believe that as our students grow and develop, I should continue to grow and learn alongside them.

Every child is uniquely talented, with their own strengths, pace and potential. At Kumon Feltham, we celebrate these differences and create a warm, supportive environment where children feel safe to make mistakes, learn from them and develop their curiosity. We don’t simply focus on maths and English. We help children develop the confidence, resilience and self-reliance they need to tackle challenges independently and approach unfamiliar work with a positive, can-do attitude.

I believe that learning is a true three-way partnership between your child, your family and our centre. By working together and maintaining open communication, we can give each child the support and encouragement they need to reach their potential.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
