Welcome to the Kumon Blackfen, New Eltham Study Centre.
Established in 2007, the centre offers maths and English programmes to local children of all ages and abilities.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Whether from state or independent schools, Kumon study boosts children's confidence in maths and English and improves their concentration and self-esteem. Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for university, employment and other aspects of adult life.
Students complete individually set work at home every day, and attend class up to twice a week, for an average of 40 minutes per subject (depending on their age and level of work). A special class for pre-school children helps them get off to a flying start at school.
Supplementary class activities support the students’ learning. Reading is encouraged, with all students borrowing from a range of books. Staff at the study centre provide support, praise and feedback to each child.
Hello, my name is Anvar Abdulla and I am the Instructor at the Blackfen, New Eltham Study Centre. Having previously been a Kumon student and worked as a teacher for over ten years, I truly appreciate the role Kumon plays in developing children into confident, self-learners who can perform to their full potential, both at school and beyond.
Kumon had a profound impact on me in terms of academic achievement, self-confidence and determination. My first encounter with Kumon occurred when I studied Japanese in one of the Kumon Study Centres in Tokyo. Kumon offered me an individualised learning programme that was well suited to my own abilities. I soon realised that the Kumon Method develops not only reading or maths skills, but also independent learning skills needed at every stage of personal development.
Seeing students grow in confidence and ability is the most rewarding part of being a Kumon Instructor. I am fully committed to developing each student at the centre to reach their full potential, achieving their personal and professional goals.
