About this centre

The Kumon Brigg Study Centre opened in 1997 and is now well established in North Lincolnshire.

The unique Kumon Maths and English programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

The youngest student currently studying at the centre is five years old and the oldest is 15. However, Kumon is available to students of all ages and abilities.

The Instructor of the centre is supported by six class assistants, of which two are previous Kumon students and one is still studying the Kumon programmes. The assistants support with the marking and recording of students’ work, working with newly-enrolled students and early learners, supplementary activities such as using the numberboards and listening to students read.

We have a notice board in our waiting area that provides up-to-date class news for parents as well as serving as a motivational tool to encourage students to complete their work on a daily basis. In addition, the Instructor sends a monthly newsletter to all students’ parents telling them about the students’ progress and any other news about the centre.

Hello. My name is Darren Burton and I am the Instructor of the Brigg Study Centre. Prior to taking over the study centre, I worked very closely with the previous Instructor to ensure that I knew the students well and to ensure that I had a good understanding of their progress to date.

My experiences include working in Japan for six years, where I was responsible for running a private English language school. I taught English to Japanese students of all ages and from all walks of life, sometimes in small groups and sometimes in one-to-one sessions.

I made the decision to become a Kumon Instructor as I wanted to give children in my local community the opportunity to excel in their studies. I have always had a passion for learning and education and sincerely believe in the value of the Kumon Method and ethos. Seeing a child develop their English and maths skills and knowledge, and also gain confidence as they become a more independent learner, is extremely rewarding for me (and for my students and their parents too!).

I look forward to welcoming you and your family to the Kumon Brigg Study Centre.
