About this centre

The Kumon Broxbourne Study Centre opened in 2006 and provides individualised maths and English instruction to local students of all ages and abilities. Many of our students attend local schools within Broxbourne and the surrounding areas.

Students are supported in class by a team of assistants who have in-depth knowledge and experience of the Kumon programmes.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

My name is Joanna Silvestri and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Broxbourne Study Centre. With a double masters Degree in Business and Education, as well as experience working abroad and in the UK, my passion for developing solid maths and English abilities in students drew me to a career with Kumon.

I joined Kumon in 2014 as an Area Manager in North London. Whilst working in this role I took care of 25 study centres, providing instructional support and guidance, delivering training, and working with students. During this time, I also developed my knowledge of the Kumon Maths and English Programmes and gained an in-depth understanding of the Kumon Method of Learning.

In the centre I work to create an atmosphere that is positive, supportive and fun, promoting a sense of excitement attached to learning and accomplishment. As an Instructor the most rewarding aspect of the job is helping a student build their confidence, changing their opinion of a subject they may have given up on, and eventually starting to surprise themselves with their abilities in advanced work.

Parents can also expect to be kept up-to-date with their child’s progress through regular progress meetings, centre newsletters, and frequent contact on their development.
