About this centre

The Canterbury centre caters for students of all ages and abilities, from pre-schoolers to teenagers. Students at the centre attend from all parts of Canterbury and other local areas such as Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate and Ramsgate.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Like other tuition providers in the Canterbury area we offer supplementary maths and English programmes to improve academic success, but Kumon is so much more than academic learning; our outlook is to help develop the key study skills your child needs to thrive in school, putting into place skills for life.

From the moment the student sits down in class we focus on concentration, stamina, good study routine, independence of thinking, working at a good pace and rhythm, following instructions carefully and even posture; these are all aspects of learning that help a child reach their full potential.

We have had many students go on to do well in their entrance exams and 11 plus “Kent test”, having developed the complementary study skills at Kumon to achieve success.

All the staff at the centre are experienced in supporting children and background checks are in place to ensure their suitability to work with your child.

Hello, my name is Kathryn Liggett and I’m the Instructor at the Kumon Canterbury Study Centre.

Before taking over the Canterbury centre in July 2015, I worked as a primary school teacher for ten years in both state and private schools here in Kent and previously in West Yorkshire.

I loved working as a class teacher, but I found it difficult to be able to provide individualised help for each student due to time demands. The personalised nature of the Kumon Maths and English Programmes is something which attracted me to becoming a Kumon Instructor, as students start at their own, individual starting point and move through the levels at their own pace. In addition, I truly believe that one of the most important skills a child can learn is independence. Seeing the boost in confidence and independence children get through Kumon study has been really rewarding.

Since I have been running the Canterbury centre I have been continually learning myself and will continue to do so each and every class day. I believe we never stop learning, and by encouraging in a child an excitement and enthusiasm for this, along with a positive approach to problem-solving, we are giving them the tools for a successful future.
