About this centre

Welcome to the Cardiff, Canton Study Centre.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

Many of the students attend schools within the area and live in the local community. Students of all ages and abilities are catered for and current students at the study centre range in age from six to 14 years old.

There are experienced class assistants working alongside the Instructor to support the students' development. The senior assistant is Liane Winter, who is an ex-English secondary school teacher and who was head of sixth form at Radyr Comprehensive School.

My name is Jane Jones and I am the Instructor at the Cardiff, Canton Study Centre.

I have only had my own centre since late 2012 but prior to this worked as the senior assistant at the Whitchurch Study Centre. It was during my time at Whitchurch that made me think I would like to open my own centre as I could see first-hand the benefits of the Kumon study programmes.

At Whitchurch, I learned all about the class procedure, how the children worked on a daily basis and got an understanding of the Kumon worksheets and the programme which provides the children the tools to reach their full potential.

My own experience started when my own daughter attended Kumon classes to study the Kumon English Programme - within a few months the improvement was clear to see and the feedback from her school was impressive.

I find working with children of all ages very inspiring as the programme can be tailored to all ages and abilities. Each day and each child is a new challenge. It is so rewarding to see them improve and flourish and the gratitude from parents is the cherry on the cake.
