About this centre

Established in 2009, the centre helps students of all ages and abilities, across both primary and secondary schools; the youngest student is five years old and is studying both the maths and English programmes, and the oldest student is 18 years old and is currently studying maths.

Working within the centre are three highly motivated and able class assistants. Each assistant is highly valued for the skills they bring, and they help to enhance the students’ experiences in what has over the years become a very successful centre.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes, pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

Hello, my name is Deborah Taylor and I run the Kumon Chester-le-Street Study Centre.

Prior to setting up my study centre, I supported a fellow Kumon Instructor, who then recommended that I set up my own franchise. This, coupled with my experience as a Kumon parent provided me with the motivation to start running my own centre in 2009.

I am passionate about ensuring every child within my centre reaches their full potential and understand the importance of an individualised programme to best support each student to achieve their goals and to be the best they can be.

The achievement of a firm foundation in maths and English for every one of my students is my priority as with this comes a new confidence, a love of learning, and a passion to succeed beyond any previously set boundaries.

Since starting Kumon, I have worked conscientiously and exceptionally hard to champion the Kumon study programmes, and have a number of parents at the centre happy to affirm that the Kumon Method of Learning definitely works!

I firmly believe every child has individual needs and my experience to date has demonstrated that I can guide and support students to become successful in their own right.
