About this centre

The Kumon Chorleywood Study Centre has been running since 1996.

Children as young as four, and up to age of 17, attend the centre once or twice every week to study English, maths or both subjects. Most students attend the study centre for at least a year and many have attended for five or more years, developing their skills and studying according to their ability rather than their age.

Kumon is an individualised long-term study programme designed to enable your child to develop vital work skills such as confidence, concentration, accuracy and speed which are invaluable in all areas of life. Following a free assessment, your child will begin their learning journey at an individually set starting point appropriate for them.

During class your child will be observed closely, supported in learning independently and instructed in how to problem solve if needed, and on non-class days your child will take worksheets home to complete on a daily basis, ensuring new learning is consolidated and mastered.

Working alongside the Instructor is a team of well-trained assistants. Most of the assistants have studied Kumon to a high level themselves and can therefore offer more knowledgeable support to the students if needed, in addition to being an inspiration for what can be achieved.

My name is Shani Sharma and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Chorleywood Study Centre.

I am a mathematician and have worked with children and young people over the last decade, supporting them in their learning and development academically and also in building resilience. I am also a school governor which provides a great deal of insight into how our education system works and what is expected of our children.

As a Kumon parent I have seen first-hand the positive impact the Maths and English Study Programmes can have; not only have they boosted my daughter’s academic rigour but also her capacity to concentrate, persevere and to complete her work independently.

I believe my own experience as a Kumon parent will enable me to provide even greater and more effective support to your family. I cannot overstate the importance of the three-way partnership between your child, you as the parent and myself, the Instructor. By working together, each playing our own vital part, we can nurture your child to become an independent learner who achieves their academic and personal potential.
