About this centre

The Kumon Dorchester Study Centre opened in February 2016, and provides a friendly and supportive environment for students of all ages and abilities. The centre aims to help children fulfil their true potential as learners and develop them into capable individuals, ready to take on new challenges. It aims to offer parents an effective way of supporting their children’s learning at school.

During class the Instructor prompts and guides as appropriate, whilst also observing how children respond to the work set in order to adjust future work to suit their needs. Children are also encouraged to use the number board activity table and reading area.

In addition to the work done in class, homework is completed on a daily basis and parents will be given regular updates on how their children are progressing. Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Hello, my name is Ross Weedon and I am the Instructor at the Dorchester Study Centre.

I have been teaching in secondary schools for 25 years; predominately teaching English and Drama however, through my work as a supply teacher, I have recently covered a whole range of subjects including maths. I have experience of working in primary and middle schools and have really enjoyed working across the whole age range of students.

I first became interested in Kumon when exploring different tutoring options. I was very impressed by the professional look of the website and its educational philosophy based on the concept of independent study and self-learning. I was also impressed by the bespoke nature of the study programmes in maths and English, designed to suit each child’s individual needs.

I am really looking forward to introducing families in Dorchester to the Kumon Method. It will be very rewarding for me to see students steadily growing their subject knowledge, developing as self-learners and as confident, capable individuals. I will also gain great satisfaction from seeing these young people exceeding expectations and achieving their full potential.
